Very sad to hear of someones death. The true shame is that this about the only way a Sherpa gets media attention. They do the “heavy lifting” for hundreds but hang back in the shadows. Perhaps that’s the way they want it. Best of luck to any that climb Everest this season.
Well said. I think the Sherpa guides and climbers are getting a lot more of their due now than in the past, but still not enough. What some people see as the ultimate luxury achievement (rich folks who buy their way up) or for ordinary adventurers who look at Everest as their biggest test (the rest of the non-Sherpa and non-guide climbing world) the Sherpa guides see as their livelihood. Many have summitted over a dozen times. Phenomenal.
Amen to that.
